Gathering Philosophers in Southern California

A workshop aimed at building a more diverse philosophical community.

GPS California is a new initiative for undergraduates, run by faculty and graduate students at the University of Southern California. The aim of this workshop is to bring together students from underrepresented groups, with a focus on women and other minorities, who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in Philosophy. The workshop will take place at the University of Southern California November 23, 2019. The workshop will consist of a variety of events open to participants who have been selected through an application process. Events include sessions such as “Applying to and Life in Graduate School”, a keynote lecture, and individual mentoring sessions with USC faculty and graduate students. 

This year’s Keynote Speaker will be Briana Toole of Claremont McKenna College! 

The department will award a limited number of travel and hotel stipends to accepted applicants in order to make travel and attendance more accessible to all. Please indicate on your applicaition if you would like to be considered for a travel stipend this year.

3:00-4:30pm Applying to and Life in Graduate School

4:30-6:00pm Current Graduate Student Research

The GPS Application is now open! The deadline for consideration is October 7, 2019

  • Application Form 
  • Philosophy Paper (max 10 pages)
  • Statement of Interest (200 words)
  • Letter of Recommendation (provide reference info.)
