In previous BIOPOLITICAL PHILOSOPHY posts (e.g., here), I shared excerpts of my forthcoming chapter, “Foucault: The Premier Disabled Philosopher of Disability (My Love Letter to Foucault),” which will appear in The Foucauldian Mind, edited by Daniele Lorenzini (Routledge, 2026).
As I indicated in the previous posts, October 15, 2026, will mark the centennial anniversary of Michel Foucault’s birth, with plans underway to commemorate Foucault in a variety of journal issues, conferences, workshops, edited collections, and monographs. The aforementioned collection, edited with great care by Daniele, will be part of this movement in Foucault scholarship.
I am very happy to report that the entire final (pre-copyedited) version of my chapter, “Foucault: The Premier Disabled Philosopher of Disability (My Love Letter to Foucault),” is now on PhilPapers/PhilPeople. You can find it here: https://philpapers.org/rec/TREFTP
Shelley, I would love to reference your comments on the apparatus of disability in my PhD dissertation. I note that it says not to cite without the author’s permission – how do I go about getting your permission?
Many thanks

Hi Michelle, thanks very much for your interest in my work. I write about the idea of an apparatus of disability in various places, beginning with a 2015 article that was published in a special issue of Foucault Studies that I guest-edited. I developed the idea and the conception of disability that it motivates in my book, Foucault and Feminist Philosophy of Disability. I think that I employ the notion in everything I’ve written since then! You could take a look at this chapter, “The Apparatus of Disability,” published in the Oxford Handbook of Philosophy and Disability, to see whether what you want is included here: https://philpapers.org/go.pl?aid=TREANC
But please let me know if there is something else you need! We can figure out how you can cite the unpublished chapter.
Best,
Shelley

You’re right – I think I can use your work from Foucault and Feminist Philosophy. Perhaps the new chapter will be published by the time my drafts have gone through my committee – I can talk about it at my defence!
