News about Philosophy, Disability, and Social Change 6

As December approaches, readers/listeners of BIOPOLITICAL PHILOSOPHY may be wondering why they have been given so little information about the upcoming sixth edition of the Philosophy, Disability, and Social Change online conference series. I want to remind you, therefore, that Philosophy, Disability, and Social Change 6 will unapologetically take place online from January 28 to January 30 in the New Year.

I want to remind you, furthermore, that since Jonathan Wolff, with whom I co-organized the past editions of the conference, has retired, the conference series will no longer run under the auspices of the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University. When Jonathan informed me of his intention to retire imminently, I was terribly concerned that the end of the Philosophy, Disability, and Social Change conference series was a fait accompli, especially given my own exclusion from employment in (Canadian) philosophy and the pervasive indifference, if not resistance, to philosophy of disability in (Canadian) philosophy more generally.

Thus, I am quite delighted to make the following announcement: due to the political commitment and efforts of my comrade, colleague, and dear friend disabled feminist philosopher of disability Melinda Hall, who provides institutional and other support for BIOPOLITICAL PHILOSOPHY, the conference series will henceforth run under the auspices of the Center for Ethics at University of Central Florida (UCF) and the UCF Department of Philosophy. With this kind of institutional backing, Philosophy, Disability, and Social Change 6 promises to be even more accessible than previous editions of the conference, be more widely publicized and attended, and be sustained in future years.

The conference program and registration information for Philosophy, Disability, and Social Change 6 will be posted on BIOPOLITICAL PHILOSOPHY next month. Stay tuned!
