Quick Update on The Bloomsbury Guide to Philosophy of Disability

Here’s a quick update on the development of The Bloomsbury Guide to Philosophy of Disability that I am editing, since some readers/listeners of BIOPOLITICAL PHILOSOPHY have asked about the status of this pathbreaking publication.

My editor at Bloomsbury Publishers, Liza Thompson, and I agreed that October 1, 2022, will be the submission date for the manuscript. In the Spring of 2021, I invited most of the authors whose work will appear in the collection to contribute to it. At the time, I instructed these authors that the publication schedule for the book was tight and that their draft chapters would be due on May 1, 2022.

Predictably, extensions and exceptions have been made. Some authors have dropped out of the project, as always happens with edited collections, and other authors have come into the project to fill gaps, empty slots, and so on.

Nevertheless, I have thus far edited about half of the chapter drafts submitted and have returned them to their authors for revision. I have given authors until August 15, 2022 to return their revised chapters to me. About 20 percent of the edited chapters have already been revised and returned to me by their authors.

So, we are well on track to publish this much anticipated volume next Spring! More publication details about The Bloomsbury Guide to Philosophy of Disability will be provided on BIOPOLITICAL PHILOSOPHY in the months ahead.
